While shopping for live edge slabs, one of our local vendors had one from a Hackberry tree. I had never heard of it before, but after seeing it we had to get it. It had some beautiful figuring and the wood itself is pretty hard and durable.
One of our clients was looking for a live edge table so we proposed this slab and it was a go. There were some cracks in the slab as there often are and we made brass bowties to hold them together and filled the cracks. We then did an epoxy resin finish on it and installed it on a small VI Beam base.
The top ended up being 8′ x 40″ x 2″ thick, and the table weighed around 695 lbs.
